The Basics
Founded in 2013 by Keith Randle in Newport Beach and Costa Mesa, California, Summit Coastal Living provides high-end sober living for newly clean and sober men. Summit provides a supportive and safe environment in the natural beauty of California’s Orange County coast, to help clients evolve through the recovery process.
Accommodations and Amenities
Summit Coastal Living accommodates 24 men among three family-style houses in different locations. Furnishings are modern, and tastefully arranged. Accommodations include the option for double-occupancy rooms, triple-occupancy master bedrooms and private rooms, each at a different price point. A double includes two full-sized beds with headboards, luxurious striped comforters, a closet, dresser, nightstand and lamp.
All of the houses include fully equipped kitchens, living rooms, dining areas and outdoor patios. Clients are assigned shelf and refrigerator space. They purchase their own groceries, and prepare their own meals. Amenities include Wi-Fi, Cable TV and a laundry room. Each house has a live-in residential manager. Smoking is allowed in outside designated areas.
Rules and Regulations
Potential clients must have already undergone detox, and preference is given to those who have completed residential treatment at a drug rehab. Clients with less than 90 days of sobriety must attend daily 12-step meetings. Clients with more than 90 days must attend a minimum of four weekly AA/NA/CA meetings. Requirements also include participating in a transitional care program (if appropriate), working or looking for a job and performing assigned household chores. Two of the residences include mandatory house meetings. Some clients attend Hoag Health Center, which offers an outpatient program and dual diagnosis support.
At Summit Coastal Living, the house managers must approve all potential visitors. Additionally, guests must leave an hour before curfew, and absolutely must not be under the influence or using. The curfew is 11 pm Sundays through Thursdays, and midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. Random bed checks are conducted. Random drug and alcohol testing is also conducted. Mouthwash containing alcohol is forbidden. Clients are advised to avoid food containing poppy seeds. Clients who relapse must immediately leave the premises for a minimum of three days. Admission back into the house is determined on a case-by-case basis.
Extras
Transportation is available at an additional cost for those who do not have a car or driver’s license. Summit Coastal Living is a member of the Sober Living Network, Orange County Sober Living Coalition.
