The Basics
Located in Wichita, Kansas, the Substance Abuse Center of Kansas (SACK) is a behavioral health non-profit founded in 1995 providing outpatient programs for addiction. While the facility’s services are limited primarily to participants coming in through the criminal justice system and those court-ordered to attend, self-referred clients are also welcome and a variety of programs are available.
Treatment and Staff
Before beginning treatment, clients must first go through an assessment to verify they are a gainfully employed Kansas resident. For those who need to stabilize first, the facility has a non-medical detox unit which participants can stay in for up to 23 hours for no additional cost. Once stabilized, clients work with staff members to be placed in a program which suits their needs.
Aside from many specialized programs, the Substance Abuse Center of Kansas provides flexible and individualized treatment which features both individual and group therapy with 12-step facilitation and evidence-based practices including CBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI). Because the majority of the facility’s services revolve around finding clients further treatment and stable employment, extensive case management services are also available. The staff consists of LACs, peer mentors, case managers and additional Master’s-level clinicians.
Extras
In addition to the general outpatient counseling above, other specialized services include standalone substance abuse and psychological assessments, case management, criminal re-entry programs, peer guidance, DUI services and community supervision. Those in need of aftercare services can also continue attending relapse prevention groups through the facility.

While the majority of its services are aimed at clients trying to re-integrate after going through the criminal justice system, the Substance Abuse Center of Kansas provides flexible outpatient care as well. Treatment is evidence-based and is supplemented with a number of community-oriented follow-up programs. While those seeking a more structured outpatient option may want to seek further support, the Substance Abuse Center of Kansas remains an affordable resource for those in the area.
