The Basics
Based out of North Stonington, Connecticut, Stonington Institute is a behavioral health facility providing programs for clients struggling with addiction and co-occurring disorders. Treatment and Staff
Before beginning a program, all clients go through an initial intake and assessment process to help staff members develop their treatment plans. Those in need of detox can do so on-site in an 18-bed wing of the facility with semi-private rooms. Once stabilized, clients continue on to either an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) or a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP). While PHP schedules are akin to the intensity of a residential program, IOP generally meets three evenings a week. Both programs feature individual and group therapy with evidence-based practices including CBT and DBT. Dual diagnosis support is available as well including medication management services. Groups cover a range of topics including relapse prevention, psychoeducation, music therapy, art therapy, trigger management, spirituality and 12-step recovery concepts.
The staff at Stonington Institute consists of psychiatrists, psychologists, MDs, RNs, case managers, LMSWs, LPCs, LCSWs and additional Master’s-level clinicians.

The organization also offers an intensive residential program catering to the needs of veterans, which includes trauma-informed care. Those attending outpatient care can also work with staff members to find local sober housing as well.
