Steuben County Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services (SCASAS) of New York is an outpatient treatment program with offices in Bath, Corning and Hornell. Situated on the relatively rural northern border of Pennsylvania, Steuben County has fewer than 100,000 residents but SCASAS is the one-stop shop for the area’s low-cost chemical dependency treatment. Like many county rehab services throughout America, the goal of SCASAS is to get clients working again, especially as opioid use has been spiking in Steuben County. The program is certified by the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services.
Treatment and Staff
Treatment at SCASAS begins with an evaluation to determine a client’s needs. Services are available for both adults and adolescents and the programs offered are Intensive Outpatient (IOP) and Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) using Suboxone maintenance for those addicted to Opiates.
The IOP program includes both individual and group therapy. Groups meet three times a week for two hours at a time and individual sessions are scheduled one for one hour a week. Both use a CBT approach and specialized groups are available for women, men and adolescents ages 13-17. Family group is available to everyone, but required once a week for those under 18.
The IOP program is typically 12 weeks long, but the length of treatment depends on each individual. Clients in the Suboxone program must attend IOP as part of their treatment. Everyone is required to complete a relapse prevention program before they can graduate treatment. SCASAS does not offer detox, but can offer referrals for clients who need it.
SCASAS offers evaluations and treatment for clients with impaired driving charges who are attempting to regain their driver’s licenses. Clients may also enroll in the affiliated state-funded PROS (Personalized Recovery-Oriented Services) program, which seeks to help unemployed clients in recovery get back into the workforce.
At Steuben County Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services, clients have access to three different locations for outpatient treatment. Staff at each location are well-qualified to both address client issues and to refer clients to related services. SCASAS works with clients to cover costs, applying a generous sliding scale fee for clients without insurance coverage.
