The Basics
Located just south of Anaheim in Fountain Valley, California, StepHouse Recovery is a drug rehab that provides a continuum of care for substance abuse and co-occurring disorders that include detox, residential treatment and gender-specific sober living, which includes optional participation in an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP).
Accommodations and Amenities
The StepHouse Recovery sober living homes accommodate six men, and 14 women. The men’s house is a single-family Mediterranean style white stucco residence with a red tile roof. The front yard includes a pristine lawn, colorful flowers and a paved pathway. The house features a patio with a barbecue. Clients are paired in furnished rooms. Some single rooms are available for senior residents.
The women’s house is a large, white Colonial style house with black trim. The white-walled interior boasts wood tiling, lofty ceilings and modern furnishings. The living room has black leather couches, a fireplace and a crystal chandelier hanging from a high ceiling. The bedrooms are equally elegant. Clients share double or triple-occupancy rooms. Furnishings include full-sized beds with comforters, spacious windows, dressers, hanging artwork and ornate chandeliers, which provide ambient lighting.
Residents in both houses are responsible for their own groceries and meal preparation, which is conducted in fully equipped kitchens. Amenities include Wi-Fi, cable TV, desktop computer stations, laundry facilities, gym memberships, ample parking, transportation to 12-step meetings and IOP. Each house has onsite live-in staff.
Rules and Regulations
Clients undergo an assessment, prior to admission. They must have been clean and sober for a minimum of seven days. Many clients come to StepHouse sober living after completing detox or residential treatment at one of the other StepHouse facilities or another rehab. Clients must attend daily 12-step meetings, be active in their recovery, look for work or enroll in school. Participation in the weekly house meeting is also mandatory. The curfew is ten pm Mondays through Thursdays, and midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. At StepHouse Recovery, clients are subject to random drug and alcohol screenings. Residents who relapse are immediately dismissed from the premises.
Residents are welcome, but not required, to participate in StepHouse IOP, which incorporates evidence-based modalities, like CBT and DBT, along with a 12-step approach. The IOP track is from six pm to nine pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Treatment length varies per client, and includes two weekly individual sessions and group therapy, psychiatric counseling, medication management for co-occurring disorders, and attendance at 12-step meetings. Gender-specific groups are provided for those who do not wish to share about personal issues in the company of the opposite sex. Group topics include relapse prevention, life skills, coping, and alcohol and drug education.
