STEP2 Review
STEP2 is a private non-profit treatment facility for women in Reno, Nevada. It provides outpatient treatment for addiction and transitional housing. Their facility provides support for victims of domestic violence, and is one of only a few treatment options in the state that can accommodate women and their children.
Treatment and Staff
STEP2 requires potential clients to undergo an initial phone screening with staff before being considered for admission; after that, they may also potentially have wait for two weeks to a month before officially enrolling. Once they begin, treatment can last anywhere from two to four months, depending on the progress made working with case managers and counselors.
There is no detox available at STEP2 and treatment is fairly simple, with clients participating in group and individual therapy as well as DBT. Priority is given first and foremost to women who are active drug users and are pregnant, though they also help addicts with children and post-partum depression. Though there is no fixed length of treatment, many women stay at Step2 for as long as 18 months.
Extras
Aside from their counseling services, STEP2 also offers clients free childcare while they attend treatment sessions. Other features of the program include parenting education, job placement assistance, access to medical care, psychosocial education and domestic violence intervention and prevention.
The facility also has houses nearby which are used as transitional housing. While in residence, clients are assigned basic chores such as cooking and cleaning; transportation from there to the treatment facility is also readily available.

Overall, STEP2 is a program that specializes in women’s needs and family-oriented care, battling both substance abuse and its related issues. It offers necessary vocational training, parenting help and a safe place where young mothers can feel cared for.
