Parker ColoradoThe Basics

Founded in 2009 in Parker, Colorado, by Pastor Tom Roth who has double-digit sobriety, Step Seven is a faith-based recovery ministry, which provides sober living for men, recovery support groups, Bible study, a community outreach thrift store and a Church. Their mission is to “share Jesus with the addicted” and their belief is that by finding Christ, recovering alcoholics and addicts can experience true freedom.

Accommodations and Amenities

Step Seven operates three family-style houses in a middle-class suburb. Each house accommodates five men. Clients are lodged in single-occupancy bedrooms, which include furniture from Step Seven’s thrift store. The décor includes a twin bed, a dresser, a nightstand, hanging artwork and an alarm clock. Some rooms have televisions. Amenities include all utilities, Cable, Wi-Fi and laundry facilities.

The house includes a common living area and fully equipped kitchen. Residents are responsible for their own groceries and meal preparation. Local food banks provide groceries for financially challenged clients.

Rules and Regulations

Clients undergo a lengthy assessment with staff to ensure that Step Seven is an appropriate fit. Weekly requirements for residents include mandatory attendance at weekly Step Seven recovery support groups, performance of household chores, as well as yard upkeep, participation in the discipleship program and being at a gender-specific Bible study. The Step Seven groups utilize seven faith-based steps, which echo the 12 steps, but are Christ-centered in nature.

The groups, which each have about 11 men, are from 6:30 to 8 pm, Tuesdays and Thursdays, at the Step Seven thrift store. Clients attend the Thursday night male-only group, and a 10:45 am Sunday service at the Step Seven Church. Additionally, they are encouraged to attend 12-step and/or Celebrate Recovery meetings in the local community. During their stay, clients participate in the discipleship program, which is between six and 12 months long. The program corresponds with their seventh step, and teaches them to be Disciples of Christ. Other services include spiritual counseling.

The curfew is 10 pm seven days a week, unless the client is working. Clients undergo random drug and alcohol screenings. At Step Seven, a zero tolerance policy is conducted. Those who have relapsed  are immediately dismissed from the program and escorted from the premises.

Extras

Step Seven’s vision is to build a 24-bed Christian residential treatment center on a 17-acre property in Parker. The cost is $3.5 million. Presently, they are requesting prayers and monetary donations to make this dream a reality.

In Summary

Former clients rave about how Step Seven helped them find Christ and build a solid foundation in recovery and have no desire to ever drink or use again. This sober living venue is perfect for men who are looking for plenty of community support and seek Christ as a Higher Power.
