Stars Behavioral Health Group: The STAY Review
Stars Behavioral Health Group has been in operation since the late 1980s. It provides individuals throughout Southern California with mental health treatment and support. One of the residential programs known as The STAY is a short term residential facility for youth who are at risk and have undergone a psychiatric crisis and need a safe place to recover. Mental health treatment includes both group and individual therapy along with psychiatric care, medical assessment and aftercare planning and assistance.
Accommodations and Food
The Stay is located in San Bernardino, and is a 14-bed facility that houses clients ages 18 to 25 for up to 90 days. It houses both young men and women in separate wings in double occupancy bedrooms furnished with twin beds. All the necessities are provided, like bedding, toiletries and food for the entirely of their stay. There are both offices and classrooms on the premises as well.
The space is maintained by the clients, and food is prepared by them as well for each other. There is also a recreation area with basketball court, and fitness classes, like dance, that are offered regularly. The building is connected to the One Stop Tay Center, which has laundry facilities, showers, phone and Internet.
Treatment and Staff
There is a daily wake up of 6 am followed by self care time and chores. After breakfast there are a series of groups. Groups are different every day and include goal setting, vocational training or assistance with continued education, and wellness. Medication management is provided and managed by psychiatric staff.
The programs are strength based and use evidence-based treatment models with all their clients. Treatment is trauma focused CBT, and addresses anger management, coping skills and past behaviors. Psychoeducational groups are offered and expressive therapy methods are often used as well.
The treatment team at The STAY include LCSW, case managers, LMFT, psychiatrists, psychologists and therapists who specialize in the LGBTQ community. A number of these staff members are also bilingual.
Extras
The STAY Center also offers music, cooking and art classes, along vocational placement services.
