The Basics
Located on the San Francisco Peninsula in Redwood City, Archway is a program under the Star Vista treatment umbrella that provides variety of outpatient services in English and Spanish. These services include a First Offender Program for those with DUI offenses, alcohol and drug addiction treatment, anger management and domestic violence intervention classes. All services offered are licensed through the State of California.
Treatment and Staff
Archway provides court-mandated educational services and counseling for adults convicted of domestic violence offenses, drug use/possession and DUIs. In this facility, clients learn about addiction, anger, stress management, communication and the consequences of their actions. Both court-referred and self-referrals are welcome. The facility does not have detox but it does have dual diagnosis support.
The group therapy at Archway usually has 10 to 12 clients but staff-to-client ratio depends on the program. The First Offender’s Program typically has a two-to-15 staff-to-client ratio and general counseling services provide four staff for roughly 200 clients. Individual therapy is scheduled independently with high risk clients attending sessions a couple times a week. General-risk clients attend one 50-minute one-on-one session per week.
Staff utilize Motivational Interviewing (MI) to help clients progress in their recovery. While Archway is not 12-Steps oriented, clients are encouraged to participate in meetings with staff approval. Archway also has a medical doctor on staff who visits weekly or monthly to provide medication management depending on client needs. General staff credentials include PhDs, Master’s-level MFTs and LCSWs.

Archway is one branch of a broad-reaching organization that provides services for homeless youth, prevention, early intervention, housing for at-risk youth and outpatient substance abuse services for adults. Through group and individual therapy with credentialed staff, clients who have court requirements as well as self-referrals are given access to evidence-based therapy as well as dual diagnosis support.
