Stairway Recovery Homes provides sober living for men and women in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles. Most client referrals come from local residential treatment facilities and hospitals, but Stairway Recovery Homes also caters to criminal justice clients who want to turn their lives around. Founder Michael Lynch is an ex-con and recovering addict. After starting several other successful businesses, his mission with Stairway Recovery Homes is to help others begin recovery in a safe and nurturing sober environment.
Accommodations and Amenities
Stairway Recovery Homes accommodates 28 clients in a renovated senior living building. The co-ed facility accommodates clients in gender-specific areas. Clients are paired in double-occupancy rooms, which include twin beds and dressers. There is an effort to make the place feel homey, with wall art, houseplants, armchairs and area rugs. Amenities include WiFi, blankets and other linens, cable TV and laundry facilities.
The home includes a fully equipped kitchen with two refrigerators. Residents are responsible for their own groceries and meal preparation. The facility has a live-in residential manager and several assistant managers.
Rules and Regulations
Stairway Recovery Homes prefers that clients have successfully undergone 30 days or more of primary care at a residential treatment facility. Those with less time are admitted on a case-by-case basis. While most criminal justice clients are welcome, violent convicts and sex offenders are not admitted.
Requirements include attending at least 90 12-step meetings in 90 days, completing household chores and finding employment or enrolling in school. After the 90-day minimum meeting quota is fulfilled, residents must still attend at least four weekly 12-step meetings. They must also get a sponsor and work the steps.
The curfew is 11 pm seven days a week, unless a client works nights. The house manager must approve all guests. Stairway Recovery Homes practices a zero tolerance policy for those who relapse and they are referred to a local detox facility. Additionally, Stairway Recovery has a zero tolerance policy for clients who engage in intimate relations with other residents, steal or exhibit violent or aggressive behavior.
