Stages of Recovery

The Basics

Founded in 2007 by CEO Steven Medley in Lubbock, Texas, Stages of Recovery provides a variety of addiction recovery services. The Door is the organization’s sober living community for men and women. There is also an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), as well as the Limitless recovery coaching program for newly clean and sober clients who require support while they learn to get their bearings in sobriety. Program director Cole Watts is the co-founder of The Door Sober Living Community. Stages of Recovery helps clients delve into the 12 steps, while they receive group and individual therapy and learn basic life skills.

Accommodations and Amenities

The Door sober living community accommodates about 70 clients between two gender-specific apartment complexes. Each building has 16 two-bedroom units. Clients are paired in double-occupancy rooms, which include twin beds, nightstands and dressers. There are singles available for an additional cost, and no more than three clients per unit.

Residents are responsible for their own food, and meals are prepared in fully equipped kitchens, which include microwave ovens. Dinners are provided during evening group sessions, so that clients feel relaxed and are able to focus on therapy. Amenities include laundry facilities, cable, security cameras and Wi-Fi. The women’s complex includes a whirlpool bathtub, two private patios and a coffee bar. House managers live on-site at both buildings.

Rules and Regulations

Prior to admission, potential clients undergo a comprehensive assessment, and establish individualized treatment plans with a clinician. Those in need of medical detox are provided with referrals. Dual diagnosis support is not offered on the premises, but referrals to psychiatrists, and mental health professionals are also provided. Length of stay is typically between three months and one year.

Residents must participate in the Stages of Recovery IOP. Treatment includes attending four group sessions, one individual session and four 12-step meetings each week. Group therapy is from six pm to nine pm. Program length varies per client. At Stages of Recovery, the Matrix Model is employed. Group topics include early recovery skills, relapse prevention, coping with cravings, introduction to the 12-steps, the disease of addiction, the addicted and recovering brain, time management, financial planning and sober fun.

Besides Medley and Watts, who is a LCSW, staff includes a former client who is now The Door’s director, a Bachelor’s-level CSW, facility maintenance and two house managers.

Extras

Other services offered at an additional cost include life coaching and recovery support. Coaching services include weekly one on one sessions, goal setting, progress reports to counselors or probation officers, discharge planning, daily phone contact and updates to family.

A family program, which includes dinner, is held from six pm to nine pm on Fridays. A monthly family group session is held from 10 am to two pm on Saturdays.

The 30-day sober living cost for men is between $565 and $665, while the cost for the women’s facility is between $795 and $895. Insurance is accepted for IOP, but 30-day private pay is approximately $5,000.

In Summary

Stages of Recovery offers comprehensive, and highly affordable services which focus on teaching accountability, life skills, and the basics of the 12 steps. The only downside here is that Stages of Recovery doesn’t provide dual diagnosis support for clients with co-occurring disorders. Still, this remains a great option for those in the Lubbock areas seeking recovery support.
