St. Paul Sober Living - ColoradoThe Basics

St. Paul Sober Living is a sober living organization founded in 2001 in St. Paul, Minnesota. In 2004, St. Paul expanded to Colorado and now operates a house in both Glenwood Springs and Carbondale for adult men. It is dedicated to providing comprehensive and structured post-treatment living for men and women in gender-specific homes.

Accommodations and Amenities

Both St. Paul sober livings in Colorado are single-family homes in pleasant residential neighborhoods.

The Glenwood Springs house is a two-story, lodge-like home with a large back deck and a hot tub with mountain views. The living room has a brick fireplace, comfortable leather sofas and ample space for socializing. There is an additional den with more seating and a large flat-screen TV as well as an office with a shared computer and printer. The large kitchen has modern appliances and all required dishes and storage for personal items. With four double-occupancy rooms and two singles, this home accommodates 10 clients.

The Carbondale house is a single-story contemporary home that also has comfortable leather sofas, a large flat screen TV, a covered deck and basketball hoop for outdoor recreation.

At St. Paul, residents begin their stay in a double room and later move into single rooms as they gain seniority. The houses come fully furnished, but residents are responsible for their own bedding, linens food and transportation.

Rules and Regulations

St. Paul requires residents to complete a phone interview with the house manager before being admitted. Clients must have completed a residential program and must have been sober for a minimum of 30 days.

All residents must attend at least three AA/NA meetings per week. Clients are also required to complete a minimum of 32 hours each week of work or volunteering in the community. Additionally, all men are assigned weekly chores and must attend mandatory house meetings.

There is no minimum length of stay and residents are permitted to live in St. Paul sober homes for as long as they wish, with the average stay being eight to nine months.

St. Paul enforces a curfew of 12 am on weeknights and 1 am on weekends. Overnights must be approved by the staff and are allowed after the first two weeks. The organization regularly drug tests and Breathalyzes clients and the house manager will perform a room search if they suspect any unusual behavior from the resident. St. Paul also requires that residents abstain from any new relationships for their initial 90 days in the house.

Extras

To help create a strong community in the houses, residents regularly participate in extracurricular activities together including ski trips, snowboarding and fishing.

In Summary

St. Paul is ideal for men looking for a strong gender-specific sober community in the Colorado area. Residents are given a great deal of independence so St. Paul may not be the best fit for individuals with a history of relapse. Overall, the comfortable homes and fellowship help build a sound foundation for new sober lives.
