Albuquerque New MexicoThe Basics

St. Martin’s Hospitality Center has been assisting the homeless population of Albuquerque, New Mexico since 1985. Acting as a non-profit organization, SMHC provides families and individuals with a range of community services at no cost to the client. Services include housing assistance, shelter and food programs as well as job assistance and mental health programs. The Therapy Center at SMHC provides outpatient chemical dependency treatment as well as treatment for co-occurring disorders.

Treatment and Staff

Prior to enrollment, clients are screened through an assessment process which determines the recovery needs of each person. If detox or more intensive treatment is needed, the client is referred to a trusted facility. St. Martin’s Hospital Center offers outpatient treatment utilizing evidence-based practices through individualized treatment plans that are tailored to their unique needs. Trauma-informed care also helps clients with existing traumas work towards their recovery in an emotionally safe environment. Treatment staff work to address trauma, anxiety, depression and other mental health conditions that may require dual diagnosis support.

The facility is open on weekdays, but an evening program and weekend hours are being developed.

Clients are seen by a case manager who helps create a treatment plan and recovery goals which they work towards during group and individual therapy. As every client’s program is individualized, the frequency of attendance varies. Specialized groups are also available—including women’s groups, job readiness groups and early recovery groups. Clients learn relapse prevention techniques as well as general life and social skills.

Therapeutic sessions are conducted by LDACs and LCSWs.
