The St. Lucy’s Program Review
First opening its doors in the 1980s, the St. Lucy’s Program is a branch of the organization called Counseling Center, Inc. that offers a residential substance abuse treatment for women. Located about an hour east of Cincinnati, in West Union, Ohio, the facility utilizes individual, group and family therapy. The Counseling Center, Inc. provides case management and has clients who attend day treatment on an outpatient basis and stay at its facility under 24-hour supervision.
Accommodations and Food
The St. Lucy’s residential facility is a large home near the Counseling Center’s outpatient treatment facility, where clients receive counseling services daily. Clients room at a maximum of four to a room for a total of 12 clients. The women are expected to do house chores and clean the house on a rotating basis.
Breakfast and lunch are provided at the main center while dinner is served family-style at the house. The cost of groceries is included in the price of the overall program.
Treatment and Staff
While in the program, clients are expected to attend group on a daily basis for about eight hours a day, from 8 am to 5 pm. They are also to take part in one hour-long weekly individual session, as well as evening AA/NA meetings which can be found in the nearby community. The inpatient program requires a 90-day commitment.
For those whose treatment progresses well, there is the option of stepping down into a basic outpatient program of three hours a day, three days a week, which also includes one weekly individual session with an assigned counselor. St. Lucy’s utilizes CBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI). The team at St. Lucy’s includes four CDACs, a medical doctor and one of the staff supervising the house 24/7.
Extras
During their stay, the residents of St. Lucy’s may join a physical wellness program at a local fitness center and enjoy group recreational activities.
In Summary
Women looking for a supportive environment with flexible housing options will do well in this program. Those considering it should check with administration to verify if their insurance could cover some or even all of their stay.
