stluciaThe Basics

Located in the East Bay area of San Francisco, just a mile from the Pittsburg/Bay Point train stop, the Santa Lucia sober living home offers a safe and healthy environment for individuals who are just out of treatment or newly sober. This beautiful two–story house is an affordable alternative to the sober livings in some of the pricier neighborhoods in the Bay area. One of a group of sober living facilities owned and operated by TLC Sober Living Homes, Santa Lucia has minimal structure and a number of amenities.

Accommodations and Amenities

The house, which is coed, has five bedrooms, four bathrooms and a living room with a fireplace and a large flat-screen TV. Amenities in the well-equipped kitchen—which is adjacent to the semi-formal dining room—include a coffee maker, dishwasher and microwave. The house has central air-conditioning and heat, a large brick patio with outdoor furniture and a barbecue, and cable and high-speed Internet.

Santa Lucia houses 12 people. All rooms are double-occupancy except for the master suite, which accommodates three people and has a private bathroom. Rooms are furnished with twin beds, dressers and night stands. All bedrooms are on the second floor, with communal rooms on the first level. Décor is modern, clean and simple. There is a half bathroom downstairs for visitors and a laundry room adjacent to the kitchen. Clients are responsible for their own food and personal items.

The facility provides households goods like cleaning products, toilet paper and paper towels and laundry soap in addition to coffee and kitchenware.

Rules and Regulations

Residents must be 18 years of age or older, make a 30-day commitment and pay the rent on time. They must be 100 percent drug- and alcohol-free to live in the Santa Lucia house and be actively engaged in some form of recovery, such as outpatient therapy, AA, NA or Smart Recovery.

Clients are required to keep their rooms tidy and to have their beds made by 9 am during the week and 10 am on weekends. They are assigned chores, which rotate weekly. Though the house manager doesn’t live on the premises, he/she is on site seven days a week to ensure that rules are followed.

All residents are encouraged to work or attend school. Those who don’t must be enrolled in outpatient treatment or attend counseling and three 12-step meetings a day.

Drug and alcohol testing is done three times a week and anyone who drinks or uses drugs is promptly expelled. However, if they return within 24 hours and are drug-free and sober, they may be readmitted after paying a $250 fee.

Curfew is at 11 pm during the week and midnight on weekends. On Thursday and Sunday evenings, residents are required to attend house meetings.

In Summary

With its clean, modern furnishings, proximity to public transportation and supportive environment, Santa Lucia is a good option for individuals living in the San Francisco Bay area who are ready for this stage of recovery. Residents are encouraged to work and be active in 12-step or SMART Recovery as they are gently prodded back into normal life.
