Since 1869, New York’s St. John’s Riverside Hospital has been serving the communities of Yonkers and southern Westchester County on the shores of the Hudson River. The Behavioral Health Services center inside St. John’s Riverside Hospital is both an outpatient and inpatient treatment center for drug and alcohol abuse. St. John’s mission is to give clients the tools and support they need for healthy choices and satisfying lifestyles.
Accommodations and Food
In the 72-bed residential detox program, clients share double-occupancy rooms in a hospital setting. TVs are available during designated hours in a common room. There is no computer access during treatment and clients are not allowed to have electronic readers, mobile phones or other electronic devices. special dietary needs will be accommodated.
All meals are prepared by facility staff and clients eat communally, cafeteria-style. Clients with special dietary needs are accommodated. Clients also have access to laundry services.
Treatment and Staff
St John’s Riverside Hospital follows the 12-step model and offers various levels of treatment depending on needs, including dual diagnosis, that are determined by intake staff. The programs include a three-to-seven day inpatient detox, a 28-day inpatient rehab and two levels of outpatient rehab. The detox provides physician-supervised and compassionate care for those suffering from withdrawal from alcohol, opiates, benzodiazepines and other drugs of abuse. The inpatient program features a combination of individual and group therapy as well as relapse prevention meetings, art therapy and even physical therapy for those who qualify.
The outpatient programs include day rehab and the less intensive clinic outpatient. Group sessions are offered morning, afternoon and night. Clients who choose day rehab are required to attend one two-hour session a day while clinic clients attend one-hour sessions.
The 24-hour support staff is physician-led and made up of trained and licensed counselors, nurses and physicians. The staff helps with referrals to halfway houses and other important aspects of moving to the next level of sobriety, such as job skills training.
Extras
Clients can take part in a broad range of therapies including art, drama and music therapy as well as back-to-school classes and relapse prevention education.
