The Basics

St. John’s Riverside Hospital‘s Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and range of outpatient services are an extension of its residential program in Yonkers, New York. There are a number of locations available for participation in the IOP and outpatient network, all in New York and near the beautiful Hudson River—Yonkers, White Plains and Mount Vernon. The locations are a close drive from Westchester County and New York City. The hospital has been treating addiction since 1967 and has become one of the area’s forefront rehab organizations. St. John’s Riverside Hospital also participates in community outreach as well as offering rehabilitation services to those who are incarcerated.

Treatment and Staff

Treatment is evidence-based, as is typical for hospital facilities, using Motivational Interviewing (MI), CBT and the 12-step program among other methodologies.

The IOP offers two levels of care: daytime rehabilitation and a less-intensive clinical treatment. Day rehabilitation consists of one two-hour session, while clients in the clinical treatment program attend only a one-hour session. Clinical treatment is during the daytime, afternoon or evening so clients can work around their schedules. Group sessions are also offered throughout the day.

Clinical treatment may include Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) as necessary. Medications include Suboxone or Subutex for opioid addicts and may help with those who choose to detox over a longer period of time and outside of a medical facility. The attending physicians are all psychiatrists, meaning that those with dual diagnoses are given special and appropriate attention from the right clinicians to deal with the additional issues underlying their addictions.

Staff is composed of psychiatrists/physicians, licensed counselors and nurses.

Extras

The Yonkers location also offers care for those with HIV/AIDS.

In Summary

For those seeking IOPs in the New York City metro area, St. John’s Riverside Hospital presents an extensive network of locations to choose from. Whether the client is transitioning from detox, a residential program or simply seeking an IOP on its own, the level of attention given by the hospital’s many clinicians and therapy programs offers a way to receive extensive care while living at home. The two tracks available mean that clients can choose the level of care that they think is appropriate for them, maintaining complete control over their recovery.
