Accommodations and Food
Located along the beautiful St. John’s River, the 21,000 square foot facility is situated on an eight-acre campus in the small town of Crescent City. Far removed from the hustle and bustle of big city life, St. John’s provides a unique atmosphere that is at once serene and engaging. The environment is ideal for any individual beginning their recovery journey.
The newly renovated facility provides spacious shared bedrooms with full-sized beds with ensuite bathrooms and a flat screen TV. There are plenty of amenities including a large common area for socializing, music room, art room and a shaded outdoor patio area with a barbecue grill. The facility does not permit electronics such as laptops and smartphones, though residents are allowed to make phone calls after one week. St. John’s does provide transportation. Visitation may be scheduled.
The facility provides a cafeteria-style meal experience with plenty of options for clients with dietary restrictions and preferences.
Treatment and Staff
Clients undergo a phone interview and a comprehensive intake assessment that includes a medical and psychological history as well as an account of substance use. The team uses these results to determine the best possible individualized treatment plan customized to address the specific needs and goals of the client. Individuals also begin their aftercare plan during the admission process.
When necessary, clients immediately transition into the detox program. St. John’s offers a medical detox that includes around-the-clock supervision and medication to mitigate painful withdrawal symptoms like nausea, anxiety and depression. Upon completion of detox, clients typically transfer into residential care. The length of residential care varies depending on the needs of the individual.
St. John’s Recovery Place offers an integrative approach to treatment that includes a range of therapeutic methods including evidence-based and traditional models, 12-step support, holistic practices, psychoeducation and relapse prevention. Clients engage in individual and group therapy as well as holistic measures such as art therapy, massage, meditation, music therapy, horticultural therapy and nutrition. Residents benefit from powerful animal-assisted and equine therapy techniques. In addition, the facility offers neurofeedback therapy to teach clients how to regulate otherwise involuntary bodily functions like blood pressure and heart rate.
The St. John’s Recovery Place team is comprised of physicians, nurses, clinicians, therapists and counselors. Medication management and medical services are available for residents with co-occurring conditions.
