The Basics
St Francis Community Services has been providing youth with comprehensive behavioral health care in Great Bend and Salinas Kansas since 1945. It offers Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) and standard outpatient care that is evidence-based. Its spiritually-driven programs treat teenagers, pregnant and postpartum women and families using group and individual therapy, as well as the 12-step philosophy.
Treatment and Staff
Treatment is individualized to each client’s specific needs, with an initial assessment determining the best possible treatment plan. The teen clientele, between the ages of 12 and 18 years old, require family involvement or the participation of a foster care family member throughout treatment. Adult clients are typically pregnant women who are still using drugs or drinking, or are parents that have been caught using drugs or abusing alcohol around their children. In both cases, there is a strong family reintegration emphasis that includes psychoeducation, anger management and communication and problem-solving skills training.
The IOP can be up to three or four days a week, consists of group sessions, lectures and one individual session. Adult clients are required to attend daily 12-step meetings and obtain a sponsor, while the younger clients are given an introduction to AA or NA step work but asked to focus on identifying past traumas or experiences that may have led to their drug or alcohol abuse. All clients are also required to submit to drug tests several times a week.
Therapeutic approaches vary from client to client, but generally include CBT and trauma-informed care and relapse prevention techniques. Treatment programs at this facility are also suited for clients with co-occurring disorders.
The staff includes a multidisciplinary team of clinicians, including LCSWs, psychologists and MFTs.
Extras
Aftercare usually includes group therapy and follow-up services. There is also family and couples counseling available.
In Summary
The St. Francis Community Services Outpatient program does not employ a one-size-fits-all approach to treatment but rather takes the whole person into account. Its staff works closely with clients and offers a patient, caring atmosphere with a willingness to allow each individual the time they need to fully experience the healing process.
