The Basics
St. Christopher’s Addiction Wellness Center (STC) is an expansive substance abuse treatment organization in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. A full continuum of care is offered for men 18 and over, with detox, residential, outpatient, extended care, sober living and aftercare programs available. The extended care and recovery home phases both entail living in a safe and structured environment while building independent living skills and continuing regular therapy. Its Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) takes pace at the main facility and is open to adult women, as well. STC’s personalized approach to recovery is based on the 12-step philosophy and incorporates evidence-based practices.
Treatment and Staff
Those interested in the IOP begin with an assessment so that an individualized treatment plan can developed. This program is designed for men and women who have completed a residential program and want additional support or who need structured treatment but wish to maintain work or school commitments. The programs also include dual diagnosis support, if necessary.
Clients have group daily and individual therapy several times a week. The duration and frequency of treatment depends on the client’s treatment plan but they typically attend three to five days a week for three hours at a time. Therapeutic approaches like DBT, CBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI) are employed, with an emphasis on regular 12-step attendance. Gender-specific groups are available, as well as specialized tracks sessions for clients with PTSD, trauma and mood disorders.
Extended care clients participate in treatment Monday through Friday for six hours during the week and from 10 am to 12 pm on the weekends. Evenings consist of AA/NA meetings or group sessions. As clients progress through the program they can step down to the IOP. This option is also offered to women, as well as clients who remain at the facility longer than 90 days who still need support.
The staff includes nurses physicians, Master’s-level CADCs, LPCs, LCSWs and Recovery Coaches. Many of the team members are graduates of the STC programs or are also in recovery.
Extras
For clients who successfully complete any program within the St. Christopher’s network and remain in the Baton Rouge area, one year of aftercare support is provided at no cost. The aftercare plan can include ongoing outpatient group or individual sessions as needed.
