The Basics
Specialized Treatment Services (STS) facilitates outpatient treatment for opiate addiction in four locations throughout Greater Minneapolis, Minnesota. Founded in 2005 by chemical dependency and mental health professional, Carrie McGregor, STS is CARF-accredited for outpatient treatment and licensed by the Minnesota Department of Human Services, Board of Pharmacy, DEA and CSAT.
Treatment and Staff
STS is a clinical phase-based program centered on Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) and the Harm Reduction Model. Clients chemically dependent on opiates are prescribed methadone or buprenorphine. STS accepts new clients by appointment or walk-in.
Treatment and counseling appointments are based on the client’s needs and schedules, as is the length of program, which can range from a few months to over a year. Treatment is divided into seven phases based on frequency of counseling and drug carry out. As clients graduate to a new phase, they are required to attend less counseling sessions but can increase their carry out. Medically-supervised taper is also available to eligible clients.
Treatment also includes CBT, individual and group therapy. STS offers Six Dimensions Counseling, which covers withdrawal, physical health, mental health, change readiness, relapse and recovery in a group setting. Other daily groups cover stress management, relapse prevention, living skills and peer sharing. Twelve-step is not a part of the STS treatment program.
Detox services are not offered and clients needing dual diagnosis support are referred to an outside program for mental health counseling.
Staff is mixed gender and includes 25 full-time LADCs and LCDCs, two physicians, one physician’s assistant, RNs, pharmacists and case managers.
Extras
STS offers family education, career building and living skills classes. All clients have access to basic medical care. STS assists clients with applying for county funding.

Specialized Treatment Services is a phase-based MAT program for clients addicted to opiates. Treatment uses the the Harm Reduction Model and CBT within the structure of individual and group therapy. Duration of the program and frequency of appointments are based on the needs and schedule of the client. STS operates four clinics in the greater Minneapolis area.
