Located in Denver, Colorado, Spanish Clinic offers adults and adolescents outpatient services for substance abuse issues. This facility operates in an area that is in need of bilingual services, hence classes in both English and Spanish are offered. Treatment is based on the principles of CBT, with the goal of helping clients to restructure their thought patterns and behaviors. Through group therapy and optional individual therapy, clients learn important life skills and new ways of coping with stress.
Treatment and Staff
This facility offers outpatient programs that range from six to 12 weeks in duration. Groups are held in both English and Spanish, with the size ranging from eight to 20 clients per group. Adult groups cover a variety of topics, including DUI education and therapy, relapse prevention, issues specific to marijuana or stimulant use, parenting classes and anger management. The youth groups cover the same topics, plus truancy, petty theft, teen parenting and the role of young people in society. Each session is once a week for two hours.
The initial intake fee for adults is $35, while the intake fee for adolescents is $20. The alcohol and drug evaluation costs $150, while the mental health evaluation costs $250.
Clients may participate in individual counseling (for an additional fee of $35 an hour) if they wish. During these one-hour sessions, they can go deeper into personal issues and relapse prevention plans. Clients also get an introduction to the 12-step philosophy during group. They are not required to attend 12-step meetings during their treatment, but local AA/NA meetings will be suggested upon request.
The staff includes both licensed substance abuse counselors and interns. Clinical director Claudia Valadez brings a unique perspective to Spanish Clinic with an advanced degree in psychology and more than 15 years experience working with addicts and in the criminal justice system.
To better serve their bi-cultural population, Spanish Clinic offers professional translation services. Clients can bring medical, legal, professional or education-related documents to the clinic for translation. Rates are determined based on content, length of document and time required for translation.
Spanish Clinic offers a variety of affordable outpatient programs for substance abuse and behavioral health issues. With therapy offered in both English and Spanish, clients who could not otherwise participate in treatment due to a language barrier have a place to go.
