Space Coast Recovery Review
Space Coast Recovery is a CARF-accredited, nonprofit residential treatment facility. It’s about an hour’s drive east of Orlando in the small coastal city of Cocoa, Florida. Founded in 1969, Space Coast Recovery specializes in the affordable care of men struggling with alcohol and substance use disorders. It implements a primarily evidence-based treatment model that incorporates 12-step, problem solving and life skills training. Perhaps most noteworthy, Space Coast Recovery specializes in dual diagnosis support for clients suffering from co-occurring depression, anxiety and trauma.
Accommodations and Food
Residents at Space Coast Recovery enjoy a safe and supportive environment. The facility has 25 beds, so clients enjoy a tight-knit community but also have decent amount of privacy. Clients share a large bedroom with four or five peers. Bedrooms have twin-sized beds and basic furnishings. Space Coast doesn’t allow smartphones or other electronic devices.
Residents enjoy three healthy meals a day. The staff can accommodate individuals with dietary restrictions.
Treatment and Staff
Before beginning treatment a Space Coast Recovery, residents first undergo a comprehensive screening process. This includes an account of substance use and a thorough psychological evaluation. From there, the team designs a treatment strategy for the individual. While the length of treatment varies, residential care can last between six months and one year. One-month options are available too.
Clients engage in bi-weekly individual and daily group therapy sessions. Clinicians root sessions in a specialized CBT curriculum. Consequently, the therapy focuses on cognitive restructuring and self-change. Psychoeducation courses center around the disease of addiction. The facility places a premium on problem solving, life and job skills training. As a requirement of treatment, residents must acquire and keep a job. Residents must also obtain a 12-step sponsor and actively participate in recovery meetings.
Accountability is a theme throughout treatment because it encourages residents to make frank assessments of their decisions, patterns of behavior and plan for the future. As a result, clients participate in groups that focus on relapse prevention techniques like coping skills and identifying triggers. Residents develop a plan for continued support. They can also expect sexual health education and parental skills groups.
The Space Coast Recovery team has Master’s-level therapists. As previously mentioned, there is dual diagnosis support for co-occurring disorders.

Interpreters are available for clients that speak limited English or are hard of hearing.
