The Basics
Southside Medical Center offers comprehensive behavioral health care in five locations throughout Atlanta, Georgia. Treatment is available to adults who are struggling with addiction and co-occurring disorders. It uses individualized treatment that employ evidence-based practices, medication management, relapse prevention, psychoeducation, group and individual counseling in a supportive environment.
Treatment and Staff
Southside Medical addresses each client’s addiction as an illness that affects the whole person, and designs an individualized treatment plan after an in-depth assessment. The evaluation takes into account the client’s physical, social and emotional state of being, his or her financial limitations, past experiences with substance abuse and current living situation. Treatment is a phase system that begins with crisis stabilization and ends with an aftercare plan.
The programs are all on an outpatient basis and incoming clients who are in need of stabilization are able to receive ambulatory detox and a psychiatric assessment. The primary outpatient program is the opioid treatment program (OTP) in conjunction with mental health treatments. Clients receiving daily methadone doses and weekly drug tests, in addition to regular group and individual therapy. The goal of this program is to eventually get the client to receive take-home doses with less stringent monitoring.
Therapy incorporates both CBT and holistic modalities. Though treatment is not based on the 12 steps, staff members can recommend local AA meetings within the community upon request. Southside Medical also teaches stress and anger management, coping skills, relapse prevention, as well as providing HIV education and testing.
The staff members who oversee the substance abuse and mental health programs are licensed and experienced addiction specialists.
Extras
There are ongoing aftercare groups and transition resources including medical services, vocational training and transportation. Alumni meetings and events are held on a regular basis.
