Treatment and Staff
Before beginning a program, all clients go through an initial intake and assessment process to help staff members determine their needs. Those in need of detox can do so on-site in the acute unit or get referrals to nearby programs before continuing on to treatment. Though each program may vary somewhat, IOP includes both individual and group therapy with evidence-based practices including CBT and DBT, though specific modalities may vary by client and practitioner. Though AA participation is not required, it may be encouraged for those struggling with addiction.
Dual diagnosis support is available including medication management whenever necessary. While the program is not tailored specifically towards addiction, those struggling with substance abuse can get help as well. Still, thorough services are available for major psychiatric issues such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depression and the like. Treatment also includes diet and exercise counseling, case management and psychosocial skills workshops. All clients attend treatment for a minimum 11 hours a week, though this may increase depending on the case.
The staff at Southern California Hospital at Van Nuys consists of psychiatrists, doctors, nurses, psychologists, physicians assistants, LMFTs, LCSWs and additional Master’s and PhD-level clinicians.
Support for the deaf and hard of hearing is also available when necessary, as are services for Spanish-speaking clients. Other ancillary services include suicide prevention workshops, tobacco cessation classes and flexible aftercare plans. The organization also has additional locations in Hollywood and Culver City.
