Based in Los Angeles, California, Southern California Counseling Center is an expansive behavioral health organization that offers flexible treatment plans to clients struggling with addiction and co-occurring disorders. The company was founded in 1966 and has since grown into a large non-profit offering affordable counseling for a variety of needs.
Treatment and Staff
Before beginning a program, all clients go through an initial intake and assessment process to help staff members determine their needs. While on-site detox services are not offered, those in need can be referred to nearby facilities. Once stabilized, clients can begin attending individualized counseling plans—programs are available to individuals, couples, families and children. While the specifics may vary by each practitioner, each can include individual and group therapy with evidence-based treatment practices including CBT, CBT and EMDR.
Groups cover many different topics and can include parenting skills, mindfulness, anger management, coping skills, self-esteem, trigger identification, relapse prevention, interpersonal skills and more. Basic dual diagnosis support may be available as well as medication management; still, those in need of more intensive psychiatric care may want to seek out additional aid. Though 12-step participation is not required, it may be encouraged in some cases.
The staff at Southern California Counseling Center consists of LMFTs, LPCs, psychiatrists, psychologists, case managers, volunteers and additional Master’s-level clinicians.
School-based therapy is also available along with counseling at multiple locations throughout Los Angeles in Mid City, Watts and Koreatown. Other services include standalone psychological tests and assessments, couples and family therapy, anger management, LGBTQ counseling for teens and psychiatric services for emergency cases.
The organization also has a 52-week abuse prevention program for court-ordered clients as well as general groups for relationship support women in life transitions and senior issues. Finally, those who complete a primary care plan can work with counselors to develop stepped down aftercare plans as well.
In all, Southern California Counseling Center is an expansive, community-oriented organization with several convenient locations throughout the city. Treatment plans are available to clients of all ages, each including evidence-based treatment, educational groups and flexible scheduling. Although clients in need of more intense psychiatric treatment may want to seek additional help, the Southern California Counseling Center is a strong and affordable resource for those in the area.
