The Basics

Southeast Nassau Guidance Center (SNG) of Long Island, New York was founded in 1958. It is a non-profit agency that participates in the United Way of Long Island, with programs available for men, women and adolescents seeking outpatient treatment for substance abuse and co-occurring disorders.

SNG is an affiliate of the Nassau County Office of Mental Health, Chemical Dependency and Developmental Disabilities, and is also licensed by the New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH) and the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS). The facility has four locations available to clients: Seaford Mental Health Clinic, SNG Seaford Chemical Dependency Program, SNG Wantagh Chemical Dependency Program and SNG Levittown Chemical Dependency Program.

Treatment and Staff

While there is no detox at SNG, a short-term course of Suboxone is available for those transitioning off of harder drugs. Of the four locations mentioned above, each one has a slightly different focus when it comes to treatment.

Those at Seaford Mental Health Clinic are there to seek family therapy, group therapy, medical counseling, marital counseling and crisis intervention. A psychologist is available to evaluate clients and to treat mental, emotional and behavioral issues. There’s also a clinical psychologist available who provides psychiatric evaluations and works with clients using psychotherapy and counseling. Though Seaford offers a range of therapies, their programming is not as strictly regimented as some of the other locations.

Intensive outpatient (IOP) and non-intensive outpatient are available at the SNG Wantagh Chemical Dependency Program. This facility offers psychiatric treatment, individual therapy, couples, group and family therapy, crisis intervention, DWI court assessments and treatment, vocational counseling and services for families and partners of substance abusers. SNG Levittown Chemical Dependency Program is a satellite program of Wantagh that offers all the same care in another facility.

Throughout their various facilities, SNG staff includes psychiatric social workers, clinical psychologists, psychiatric nurses, psychiatric nurse practitioners, psychiatrists, certified alcoholism and substance abuse counselors and adult health nurse practitioners.

Extras

Aside from the flexibility among locations, SNG also holds free meetings for the local community led by expert guests. These talks can cover a wide variety of topics, though all of them are related to mental health and addiction.

In Summary

Overall, Southeast Nassau Guidance Center’s mental health clinic and three outpatient programs offer plenty of support for those struggling with addiction or mental health issues in Long Island. Whatever the facility lacks in glamor it makes up for with strong medical support and affordability. Prospective clients seeking help for either substance abuse and mental health issues are more than likely to find a program that fits them here.
