With a men’s facility in Detroit and a women’s facility in Romulus, Southeast Michigan Adult Rehabilitation Center is a long-term residential treatment program for adults. The facility is run through the Salvation Army’s Eastern Michigan Division and is open to clients 18 years or older. Treatment is Christian-based but also includes evidence-based therapy and 12-step practices.

Accommodations and Food

The Romulus location has a total of 80 beds for women and the Detroit facility has 300 beds for men. While the facilities may vary, both include dorm-style rooms shared between two or more clients with twin beds, dressers and shared closet space. In addition, both facilities boast on-site laundry, fitness rooms, basketball courts, game rooms, common areas with TV and an on-site chapel. Throughout their stay, all clients are served cafeteria-style meals three times a day.

Treatment and Staff

Before beginning a program, clients meet with staff members for an initial intake and assessment to determine their needs. In general, residential treatment lasts for 180 days and includes both individual and group therapy rooted in evidence-based practices including CBT and DBT. Groups cover a range of topics including relapse prevention, Bible study, GED classes, career counseling and addiction as a disease. All clients are also required to attend regular 12-step meetings.

While some basic assistance may be available for clients with depression and anxiety, those with more severe co-occurring disorders may want to seek outside help. Throughout their stay, clients must also submit to regular and random drug tests.

Southeast Michigan Adult Rehabilitation Center employs a team of LCSWs, LPCs, CADCs, case managers and additional Master’s-level staff.

Extras

Salvation Army’s Eastern Michigan Division also operates outpatient and sober living programs for clients who complete a primary care program.

In Summary

In all, Southeast Michigan Adult Rehabilitation Center is a well-rounded and long-term residential treatment option for men and women. Treatment includes evidence-based care and 12-step support presented from a Christian perspective. Because of the parent organization’s size and scope, residents can take advantage of ancillary programs once they complete their stay. For those in the area looking for an affordable recovery option, Southeast Michigan Adult Rehabilitation Center is worth considering.
