South Central Alabama Mental Health Review
Located in Andalusia, Alabama, South Central Alabama Mental Health is a multi-faceted treatment organization providing a range of services for clients struggling with addiction and co-occurring disorders. The network provides outpatient treatment services, as well as a residential treatment program designed for crisis stabilization.
Accommodations and Food
The residential treatment facility has a total of 16 beds exclusively for men. Clients reside in shared rooms with twin beds, dressers and shared closet space. In all, the home is decorated comfortably and designed to be a step down from hospitalization. In addition to the bedrooms, the residence has common areas with TV and a cafeteria. Residents are served three meals a day.
Treatment and Staff
Staff members create individualized treatment plans for each client. While lengths of stay can vary somewhat, the program is short-term and generally doesn’t last longer than 21 days. Detox is not offered on-site though referrals can be made to outside programs as necessary.
Clients can expect to attend both individual and group therapy rooted in evidence-based practices including CBT. The program also incorporates 12-step recovery principles. Support for co-occurring disorders is available including medication management and Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT). The program also includes family therapy.
The staff at South Central Alabama Mental Health consists of LPCs, LMHCs, psychiatric nurses, psychologists and additional Master’s-level counselors.
Extras
In addition to the above, once clients complete inpatient treatment, they can continue on to the organization’s outpatient program as a form of stepped down aftercare. Other programs offered through the organization include DUI/DWI programs, addiction education classes and standalone mental health counseling.

In all, South Central Alabama Mental Health’s residential program provides a safe and stable environment for men to get clean before continuing on with more thorough treatment. Programs include 12-step integration, dual diagnosis support and evidence-based care. Though it is a short-term option, South Central Alabama Mental Health Residential is still a strong resource for men in the area.
