The Basics
South Bay Connect is an outpatient substance abuse treatment facility offering individualized care for adults struggling with addiction or co-occurring disorders. Based out of San Pedro, California, treatment utilizes a variety of evidence-based therapeutic approaches like CBT, in addition to medication management, ambulatory detox and aftercare programming.
Treatment and Staff
The programs through South Bay Connect emphasize the importance of family support along with a personalized treatment schedule of group and individual therapy. This facility is partnered with another facility called Recovery Now, which connects clients with a therapist who designs programs goals and a group schedule. At South Bay Connect, clients receive additional treatments, like hypnotherapy, detox and psychiatric evaluations and medication. Between the two facilities clients have somewhat of a collaborative treatment experience.
Therapeutic methods vary between clients, as the staff of this facility acknowledges that addiction treatment does not have a one size fits all solution. Modalities include DBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI), Somatic Experiencing, art and music therapy and mindfulness. The Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) that is offered is Suboxone, which is monitored daily by clinical staff. There are also psychoeducation classes provided for clients and their families with a focus on relapse prevention and codependency. Though this facility is not 12-step, clients are encouraged to find outside support communities like AA, NA or Alanon.
The staff of South Bay Connect is comprised of the of the founder, John Tsuang, who is the medical director and psychiatrist, and Recovery NOW founder, Alicia MacGowan, who is a LCSW, LAADC and ARISE Interventionist. Members of the clinical team also include a LMFT, RN and Master’s-level CADC.
Extras
There is a family specific co-dependency outpatient program available at the facility in addition to family and couples counseling services. There are also intervention resources and transportation available between Culver City and Huntington Beach.

The philosophy at South Bay Connect is that each person experiences their own version of addiction and finding sobriety. Therapists allow space for each individual to find their path while guiding them to a healthier life and reconnecting them to their loved ones within a supportive, like minded and client-oriented community setting.
