Song-GoodwinThe Basics

Right Avenue Counseling was founded in 2002 in the Denver suburb of Centennial, Colorado. Recently, this outpatient substance abuse treatment facility relocated to a new location five miles west and now operates as Song Godwin Counseling, named after the rehab’s owner and director, Song R. Goodwin, who is also a Master’s-level counselor, Colorado Certified Addictions Counselor (CAC III). In addition to substance abuse treatment, Song Godwin Counseling also specializes in providing treatment for victims and perpetrators of domestic violence.

Treatment and Staff

Prior to admission, a one-hour in-person assessment with a counselor is completed to determine if Song Godwin Counseling is the right fit. Should the individual require detox, referrals are made. Clients receive individualized treatment plans. The weekly Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) includes optional individual therapy, a minimum of two group sessions and two 12-step meetings. While the weekly schedule seems lighter than most standard IOPs, the treatment length is long—typically between 21 and 42 weeks.

At Song Godwin Counseling, an evidence-based modality specifically CBT, as well as traditional psychotherapy and a psycho-educational approach are used during treatment. An average of 12 clients attend each group session. Group topics include relapse prevention, family dynamics, the cycle of anger, assertiveness training, cognitive behavioral exercises, coping skills, sharing of personal experiences and peer support. Female clients have the option of a women’s therapy group. Topics include healthy boundaries, parenting, self-esteem, trauma and dysfunctional childhood issues. Counselors use CBT to help clients tackle old negative beliefs and replace them with positive thought processes.

Those with co-occurring disorders undergo psychological testing. Should further assessment be necessary, clients are referred to the staff psychiatrist. Appropriate meds, as well as medication monitoring is provided.

Besides Song C. Godwin, staff includes a Master’s-level Colorado certified addictions counselor and a victim advocate.

Extras

An aftercare program is provided for clients who are on probation through the court system and in danger of relapse. Utilizing an experiential approach, weekly treatment includes one group session and individual therapy, as required. Treatment length is eight weeks. Group topics include problem-solving and assertive skills. Clients who have completed outpatient services also receive aftercare services. The weekly protocol consists of one group therapy session and individual therapy, as needed. Topics parallel those offered in IOP.

The domestic violence program is 36 weeks in length, and consists of one one-and-a-half hours of group per week. Topics include power and control, codependency, alcohol/drugs and domestic violence, relationship and intimacy issues.

In Summary

This rehab might work best in conjunction with some additional recovery support meetings, and might be best for a client who has completed inpatient care at a drug rehab. However, Song Godwin Counseling boasts a staff with impressive credentials, their curriculum is diverse and the services are affordable.
