The Basics
Located in Somerville, New Jersey, Somerset Treatment Services offers substance abuse and mental health services. This program uses a client-centered approach to treatment, providing individualized attention and treatment plans. From Intensive Outpatient (IOP) to Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) to individual therapy, this facility meets clients where they are in the recovery process.
Treatment and Staff
Somerset offers a variety of programs, ranging from a selection of IOP tracks, MAT for opiate withdrawal, psychiatric services, substance abuse education and therapy. While detox is not offered, referrals to outside facilities can be made. Dual diagnosis support is available and medications can be administered on-site when deemed appropriate.
This facility provides a traditional IOP, in addition to a mother’s IOP and an opiate withdrawal IOP. All programs meet three times a week for three hours at a time. The main focus of each program is on peer support through group therapy, with one hour of individual therapy per week mixed in. Group topics vary depending on the program, but may include relapse prevention, anger management, parenting, coping skills, trauma and 12-step philosophies. The opiate withdrawal IOP uses methadone or Suboxone to help clients safely get off of opiates and includes weekly visits with a nurse. The mothers parenting IOP uses trauma-informed treatment and includes on-site childcare. The length of time spent in each program depends on the individual’s needs.
Opiate users who are interested in something less structured then IOP have the option to come to the facility solely for medication. Therapy is offered on an as needed basis if the client is interested. Laboratory tests are available that include testing for HIV and Hepatitis C and those who have HIV can participate in a special treatment track. A counselor specializing in HIV-related issues provides individualized care for each applicant, designing a treatment plan that meets the needs of that client.
For clients who are interested in receiving therapeutic support, both group and individual counseling are offered. This can be done a weekly or monthly basis, and enables the client to create a schedule that fits their needs. While a 12-step approach is not utilized, clients are strongly encouraged to attend meetings on their own time.
The staff includes nurses, doctors, Master’s-level therapists who specialize in substance abuse and CDACs.
Extras
The alcohol education program works with schools, outreach centers, senior citizen facilities and businesses to bring information on the dangers of substance abuse.
The Drug Court group is geared towards those who are on probation, helping to educate them and prevent further arrests.
The strengthening families program aims to assist the children of addicts in dealing with their loved ones’ substance abuse problems.
