The Basics

Located in central New Jersey, Solstice Counseling and Wellness Center takes a holistic approach to substance abuse recovery. This outpatient center provides an individualized treatment experience that includes dual diagnosis support for those with co-occurring disorders such as depression and anxiety. While talk therapy is part of the treatment model, the mind-body connection is also integrated into recovery. By addressing the client’s spiritual, physical, mental and emotional needs, a strong foundation of sobriety is created.

Treatment and Staff

Solstice offers several levels of outpatient care, ranging from Intensive Outpatient (IOP), to basic outpatient and weekly individual therapy. Individualized treatment plans are mapped out before treatment begins. Group sizes are kept small, ensuring that clients receive focused attention from staff members. While detox is not available, referrals to outside facilities can be made.

The IOP program incorporates group therapy, individual therapy and 12-step principles for adults. Clients meet at the center for group therapy three hours a day, three days a week. Groups provide the space for members to practice interpersonal skills in a safe environment while getting feedback from other group members and staff. Group topics include relapse prevention, health and wellness, anger management, employment, processing and life skills. Evidence-based treatment modalities such as CBT and DBT are often used.

Following the completion of IOP, the client can step down into basic outpatient, which meets once a week, for three hours. The focus here is on lifestyle and behavioral issues, paying a great deal of attention to relapse prevention. Clients spend the majority of the time in group therapy, with one hour of individual therapy per week. The length of time spent in this program depends on the individual’s needs. For those needing assistance with mental health, psychiatric evaluations are available. Medication management can also be provided when necessary.

The staff includes CDACs, nurse practitioners who provide medication support and a Master’s-level therapist.

Extras

An eight-week early intervention program is available for those who show signs of being at risk for substance abuse, such as DUI referrals and those who with a first-time positive on an employer drug test. Weekly lectures aim to educate clients and deter them from further participation in dangerous behaviors.

The facility offers a handful of recreation opportunities and optional holistic services, for additional fees. These include weekly yoga classes, acupuncture, financial counseling and budgeting classes, creative arts, monthly field trips and a recreation room complete with a pool table and flat screen TVs.

Aftercare is available following the completion of the outpatient programs. A weekly group session is used to monitor struggles and progress.

In Summary

While some programs treat substance abuse issues in a very clinical manner, Solstice Counseling and Wellness Center uses a holistic approach to recovery. In this supportive environment, clients can feel safe as they navigate through emotional issues. With dual diagnosis support, a highly trained staff and recreational activities woven into the program, the path to wellness can be well rounded and enjoyable.
