Sojourner House Drug and Alcohol Rehab Review
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania’s Sojourner House is a comprehensive treatment program that caters to women and their children. It is an intensive inpatient program that provides 24-hour care for mothers who have struggled with addiction. This program incorporates the 12 steps along with evidence-based approaches. Sojourner House is a spiritually-centered program that aims to help women and their families get reestablished and back into their communities to live independently.
Accommodations and Food
The addiction program houses up to 14 families in individual two-bedroom apartments. The units provide everything and are furnished. Each family has bedrooms with twin beds and dressers, kitchens and dining rooms, and living room spaces. The food is donated by local food pantries and community agencies throughout the city. Clients make their own meals for themselves and their families.
Treatment and Staff
This level of care provides housing and services for up to six months. Clients enrolled in this program access 24-hour support, on-site AA and NA meetings, group and individual therapy and education.
In order to qualify for this program clients need to be at least 18 years old, have at least one child under the age of 12, and be willing and able to work on their recovery and complete the program.
The days include group therapy that addresses relapse prevention, parenting skills, life skills, and drug education. While this program is spiritually based there is no obligation to attend bible study or church services. There is, however, a weekly spirituality class that clients must attend.
Therapy employed at the facility includes approaches like CBT, DBT, and trauma-informed care. There are morning meetings where clients take time to set treatment goals, and address common issues like triggers, establishing healthy boundaries, emotional support and reconnecting with family.
The large staff that operates the different elements of the program at Sojourner House is made up of LPC, case managers, family support specialists, and child development specialists.

Case management services which are provided for clients and their families, include medical care, legal assistance, and childcare.
