SoCal Detox Review
SoCal Detox provides detox and residential treatment in well-appointed residences in the Southern California cities of San Clemente and San Diego. It operates two homes in San Clemente; one female-only for residential treatment and one male-only for detox. Its San Diego residence provides residential treatment for men.
SoCal Detox was founded four years ago. Its director, Josh Beauchaine, LMFT, has a coaching background and has worked to create a non-judgmental and motivational treatment atmosphere. SoCal Detox is equipped to treat co-occurring disorders and support clients in 12-step and other peer support frameworks.
Accommodations and Food
Each residence houses six clients. Most clients have roommates; however, private rooms are available for an additional fee. The homes, in quiet suburban enclaves, have coastal and mountain views. They also feature leather couches, hardwood floors, gourmet kitchens and TVs in every bedroom. The residences come equipped with free laundry facilities and games, ping pong tables and yard space for recreation.
Each home employs a private chef who prepares meals according to clients’ nutritional needs and preferences. Residents cannot use cell phones and laptops. Exceptions can be made for employment-related activities, in which case use is monitored by staff.
Treatment and Staff
Detox stays are usually three to 10 days. Residential treatment ranges from an additional 10 to 28 days. All clients meet with an LMFT for individual therapy at least once a week and with a case manager to create an aftercare plan. In detox, clients participate in group therapy as soon as they’re medically stable. Residential clients have full days of group therapy, psychoeducation classes, experiential therapy and, in the evenings, peer support meetings such as AA/NA or SMART Recovery.
Therapy uses CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI) and mindfulness training. Clients may also have EMDR sessions to help process trauma. Clients in need of dual diagnosis support can meet with SoCal Detox’s consulting psychiatrist for additional therapy and medication management.
The rest of the treatment team at SoCal Detox includes LMFTs, physicians, nurses and behavioral health technicians.
Extras
SoCal Detox uses several experiential modalities and recovery activities to help clients improve their health and interpersonal skills. The include music and art therapy (including Rock to Recovery), harp therapy and equine therapy. Clients also participate in nutrition classes.
Families are encouraged to schedule family therapy with clients’ primary counselors. SoCal Detox also offers a monthly family group for support and addiction education. Each client works closely with their case manager to locate further treatment options, whether its outpatient programs, on-going therapy or peer support meetings.
