The Basics
Founded by LADC Don Glatzmaier, Sobriety First, LLC offers outpatient substance abuse treatment in three Minnesota locations—St. Cloud, Sauk Centre and Milaca. Blending the 12 steps with CBT, this program strives to bring balance into the lives of clients. Through regular group and individual therapy, clients can start to work on coping skills and community-based support.
Treatment and Staff
Upon entering the program, each client receives a chemical dependency evaluation. Through this, an individualized treatment plan is developed. Those who need inpatient treatment, detox or dual diagnosis support are provided with referrals to outside facilities. Treatment occurs through both group and individual therapy, where evidence-based techniques such as CBT and Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT) are used. Group sizes are kept between 10 and 15 clients at a time and include topics such as relapse prevention, introduction the 12 steps, anger management, coping skills and trauma. Individual therapy can occur on a weekly or monthly basis, giving the client a chance to focus on personal issues in a private setting. Typically, these sessions are one hour. The length of treatment depends on the individual’s needs, with progress tracked as recovery proceeds.
Clients are introduced to 12-step philosophy during group therapy. During this time, the principles behind each step can be discussed in detail. In addition, clients are required to go to several outside AA/NA meetings per week. This recovery-based community is seen as a crucial key to long-term sobriety.
The staff includes LADCs and several CSWs.
Extras
This program offers military and veteran services through a partnership with Eagle’s Healing Nest, a local nonprofit that specializes in treating the invisible wounds of war in those who have served in the military.
Intervention services are available to those who need assistance getting loved ones into treatment.
Eight, 12, 16, 20 and 24-hour DUI education courses are offered to those who have been court ordered to receive treatment.

Sobriety First, LLC uses the 12 steps and evidence based therapies to teach clients a new way of living. Through positive reinforcement and a supportive community, a fresh perspective is put into place. While this program does not offer a structured outpatient program, the loose approach to recovery gives the client flexibility and freedom.
