Bolton ConnecticutThe Basics

Located in the Hartford suburb of Bolton, Connecticut, Sober Solutions offers a number of sober living homes for men and women in early recovery. Recently, co-founder David A. Ruth tragically passed away after an injury. Ruth was known to have a big heart, and with Sober Solutions, he wanted to provide safe and structured housing so that clients could focus on maintaining their sobriety, while they learned to apply the principles of the 12 steps to their lives.

Accommodations and Amenities

Sober Solutions has twelve men’s houses, and three women’s houses, with a total of 144 beds. Upon arrival, clients are paired in doubles. After a stint of time, they can get bumped up to a single, as those are reserved for residents with seniority.

Meals are prepared in fully equipped kitchens. Clients are responsible for their own groceries, and a weekly $6 house supply fee. Amenities in all the homes include Wi-Fi, laundry facilities and basic cable. House managers live on the premises in every house.

Rules and Regulations

A six-month minimum length of stay is requiredSober Solutions is known as a “working” house, as all residents must be employed, attending an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) or going to school. Those on SSI are expected to perform a regular schedule of volunteer work. Upon arrival, unemployed clients must look for work between the hours of nine am and three pm Mondays through Fridays. They are expected to get a job that requires daytime working hours. During the first 30 days, the curfew is 11 pm seven days a week. After that time, the curfew is 11 pm Sundays through Thursdays, and two am Fridays and Saturdays.

Sober Solutions is also big on the 12 steps. Requirements include attending five weekly AA/NA meetings, and being at their weekly house meeting. Overnights are not allowed for a month, but after that time, clients are granted two overnight passes per week. Performance of two weekly household chores is also required, as well as participation in major cleaning events during the fall and spring.

Random drug and alcohol screenings are conducted. There is a zero tolerance policy here, and residents ho relapse must leave the premises immediately. Additionally, if they suspect that a fellow housemate is under the influence, they have to report their findings to staff. If they don’t, they run the risk of being terminated from residency.

Extras

Each resident is offered one free parking space and permitted to park their on the property, which must be legally registered and insured. Rooms are inspected on a random basis.

In Summary

The philosophy of Sober Solutions emphasizes the 12 step principles. By offering a structured environment, these recovery living centers foster insight, integrity, respect and independence for each resident. Sober Solutions is big on peer support, and maintaining a sense of fellowship within its walls. Clients learn to be accountable, work their steps, and become productive members of society.
