Located just outside of Melbourne in the suburb of Carnegie, Sober Living Housing is a treatment facility that specializes in the care of clients ages 18 and up struggling with alcohol and substance use disorders as well as gambling addictions in addition to those with co-occurring disorders. Contrary to what its name might suggest, Sober Living Housing offers a full continuum of care that includes a detox program, intensive inpatient and outpatient services as well as monitored sober living housing. Accommodations and Food
Located 12 kilometers outside of Melbourne’s business district, Sober Living Housing enjoys the benefits of the close proximity to the big city yet is still far enough removed to provide clients a safe haven. It’s a supportive, home-like atmosphere that’s perfect for personal reflection and recovery. Monitored around-the-clock by recovery staff, Sober Living’s two houses are situated close to public transportation, a park, shopping and many 12-step meetings.
Both properties are well-maintained and include spacious floor plans, lots of natural light and communal areas for socializing. With only 13 beds in total, the environment is simultaneously familial and private. All bedrooms are equipped with two or more full sized beds and basic furnishings. Sober Living Housing integrates a healthy meal plan for residents. Clients with dietary restrictions or preferences can be accommodated.
In the coming months, Sober Living will be adding a graduation home for clients transitioning out of the inpatient program.
Treatment and Staff
Sober Living Housing provides treatment for individuals struggling with alcohol and substance use disorders in addition to gambling addiction. Upon intake, clients undergo a comprehensive assessment to help the team design the most effective individualized treatment plan tailored to the specific needs of the person. Sober Living Housing involve families from the onset, and significant others are asked to complete an assessment in addition to the client. If deemed necessary, clients enter the detox program following the completion of the clinical evaluation.
The facility offers an integrative treatment approach that synchronizes a range of therapeutic models including evidence-based therapies like CBT, holistic methods, psychoeducation, life skills, family involvement and an immersion into the 12-step recovery model. Team sports help to cultivate a sense of community and give the clients an opportunity to experience natural highs. In addition, Sober Living Housing recognizes the need for life skills in clients helping to live their lives in recovery. To this end, life coaches help clients rewrite their life through ongoing assessments, setting education and career goals and becoming personally accountable. The length of treatment varies depending on the specific needs of the client. Individuals are allowed to stay as long as they feel it necessary.
The Sober Living Housing team is comprised of clinical psychologists, addiction counselors, recovery life coaches, aftercare coordinators and house managers. Belinda Walsh and Gavin Crosisca are both USA board-certified interventionists. Medication management is available for individuals in need of dual diagnosis support.
