The Basics
Sober Homes of Texas is a men’s only transitional housing program located out of Dallas/Fort Worth. Clients participate in a faith based program and the 12 steps while learning how to smoothly re-enter their communities as a person in recovery. In addition to regular meetings, clients receive vocational training and job placement assistance, focus on setting achievable goals, and learn valuable life skills all within a highly supportive community of like minded men.
Accommodations and Amenities
The one-story home offers safe and comfortable accommodations, and is located in a neighborhood close to transportation, job opportunities and stores. The residence is very clean with simple decoration and furnishings. The bedrooms are double occupancy, and on average there are four clients living at the facility at once, and one house manager. The bedrooms have full beds, nightstands and one dresser the clients share.
There is a washer and dryer in the house, and laundry detergent is included. Residents also enjoy a cozy fireplace and a sitting room. The living room offers a TV where clients can gather during down time, and cable and Wifi are available throughout the home. The kitchen has fairly new appliances and clients are provided with cookware for making their meals. Food is not included in the price of the program, so clients are responsible for buying and preparing food for themselves.
Rules and Regulations
There are weekly meetings in the residence that clients are required to attend, in addition to a Big Book study once a week in the evenings. The facility is near several businesses and the house manager is able to assist clients with finding a job they like during their stay. There are also several AA/NA meetings throughout the week very close to the house, and Sober Homes of Texas provides transportation to and from the meetings daily.
An in-house financial advisor aids clients in putting together and managing their money. Accountability is considered an essential element of success at Sober Homes of Texas, and clients are required to communicate their schedule, set goals and complete daily tasks. There are some chores the men have to complete daily along with keeping their personal space and the common areas tidy.
A house manager is on site 24 hours a day and is able to help the residents with anything they need. There can be random drug screenings and on occasion there can be room checks.
Extras
For clients who don’t have a car, the Sober Homes of Texas provides them a bike with a small deposit.
