SOBA Texas Review
As the Texas location of the SOBA Recovery organization, SOBA Texas offers an upscale, individualized approach to treating drug and alcohol addiction. SOBA Texas was founded in 2013 by Greg Hannley, who has also started SOBA facilities in California, New Jersey and Arizona. SOBA Texas offers detox and residential treatment for adults in a serene community designed to help residents to feel safe while they recover mind, body and spirit from the disease of addiction.
Accommodations and Food
SOBA Texas is a 10-acre estate with several homes on the property, allowing for a total of about 18 clients in gender-separated living quarters. Residents are usually paired two or three per room with twin beds. The grounds feature stables, a pool, a beautiful outdoor living space with a full outdoor kitchen and acres of open space for walking, hiking or meditating outside.
Meals are prepared by a gourmet chef and residents are encouraged to follow a low-glycemic meal plan to stabilize mood swings and energy levels.
Treatment and Staff
New residents at SOBA receive a health exam, a bio-psycho-social screen, a psych evaluation and a personalized treatment plan. Those who need detox can complete this process on-site under medical supervision. Medication is provided to ease withdrawal symptoms, but the SOBA philosophy is abstinence-based, so long term Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) is not offered.
The program is designed to be 90 days or longer, with treatment in three phases, from an intensive inpatient level of care to a more flexible sober living style arrangement, where clients have the freedom to begin building a life outside reahab. The goal of treatment at SOBA is to identify and heal the root cause of the addiction. Common issues they treat in association with substance abuse are PTSD, low self-esteem, anxiety, chronic pain and mental health issues like anxiety and depression. SOBA also employs a variety of evidence-based practices, including CBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI). Dual diagnosis issues are treated with individual therapy using EMDR and DBT, and the 12-step approach integrated, with residents regularly provided transportation to local AA/NA meetings.
The staff includes nurse practitioners, psychologists, MFTs, social workers and CADCs.
Extras
Clients are offered holistic treatments like acupuncture, equine therapy, yoga and meditation and fitness is emphasized. There is an on-site gym where clients can receive personal training.
