The Basics
Founded in 1991, Smith Lodge is one of several sober living facilities operated by Missions, Inc., an expansive behavioral health organization with a number of residential and outpatient treatment and transitional housing programs in Minnesota. Located in Plymouth, Smith Lodge provides a safe and structured environment for adults in early recovery.
Accommodations and Amenities
Smith Lodge is a modest brick home situated in a quiet, residential neighborhood. It features 19 private rooms with comfortable accommodations, including on-site laundry, living areas with TVs and a full-service kitchen. As an added bonus, the home is in close proximity to Clifton E. French Regional Park and Medicine Lake, and clients are encouraged to take walks in the area and to take advantage of their natural environment. Geared toward grooming clients for independent living, residents are expected to prepare their own meals.
Rules and Regulations
Residents are required to stay sober, submit to random and regular drug tests and obey house behavioral contracts in order remain in the program—which can last up to two years. While some residents may be attending outpatient treatment during their stay, those who aren’t are required to attend regular 12-step meetings, seek employment, volunteer or pursue further education. Residents can also work with staff members to set goals, learn basic life skills and make connections in the local recovery community.
Extras
Clients in need of additional services such as detox, outpatient or residential treatment can be referred to one of Mission, Inc.’s other facilities. Other programs include “Home Free,” a 24/7 domestic violence hotline for guidance or emergency services.

In all, Smith Lodge provides a structured, co-ed sober living environment geared to help adults in early recovery work towards independent living and mainstream social integration. With a focus on accountability, peer support and 12-step participation, the program helps guide residents towards employment, community contribution or completing their education. Because Smith Lodge is a relatively hands-off program designed to give residents autonomy, those in need of more supervised transitional living may want to look at one of Mission, Inc.’s other programs. However, for final stage transitional programs, Smith Lodge is a worthy and affordable choice.
