Skywood Recovery Review
Based out of Augusta, Michigan, Skywood Recovery is a residential treatment facility for drug and alcohol abuse which opened in April 2016. The facility is operated by the larger Foundations Recovery, a behavioral health organization founded in 1995 with a network of additional facilities nationwide.
Accommodations and Food
The Skywood Recovery facility is a sprawling countryside resort-like building with a total of 100 beds. Though a limited number of private rooms are available, most residents can expect to share a room with one other roommate. Each comes with two full beds, a nightstand, dressers and a large window to look out onto the 303-acre property. Skywood Recovery is currently working on adding a new building with a full fitness center as well, though as of print the property has a driving range, putting green and a golf course for clients to take advantage of during down time. All who attend Skywood Recovery can also enjoy three healthy and delicious meals a day, all prepared and served by an executive chef. Dietary restrictions can also be accommodated.
Treatment and Staff
After initial intake and assessments, residents may need to go through an on-site, medically managed detox phase before treatment can begin. All treatment plans are highly individualized, with a wide range of evidence-based and holistic modalities. Some therapies which can be used include Motivational Interviewing (MI), CBT, DBT and Acceptance and Commitment Threrapy (ACT). Psychoeducational sessions are also used to teach clients about the nature of addiction as a disease. Treatment plans include both individual and group therapy with an overall philosophy which relies on the Stages of Change approach.
As mentioned, the facility also stresses a number of holistic approaches including wellness classes, on-site adventure therapy, a ROPES course, equine therapy, art therapy and meditative walks. Support for co-occurring disorders including trauma-informed care is also available. Topics discussed in group sessions can include conflict management, the mind-body connection, yoga, meditation and 12-step concepts. Family therapy may also be included as needed. The staff at Skywood Recovery includes RNs, psychologists, psychiatrists and additional Master’s-level clinicians.
Extras
Aside from the services mentioned above, Skywood Recovery also provides assistance with interventions as needed. Flexible outpatient treatment programs are also available for those in need of looser treatment scheduling. Similarly, aftercare services are also offered in the form of stepped down therapy sessions.
