Augusta MichiganThe Basics

Based out of Augusta, Michigan, Skywood Recovery is a residential treatment facility for drug and alcohol abuse which opened in April 2016. The facility is operated by the larger Foundations Recovery, a behavioral health organization founded in 1995 with a network of additional facilities nationwide.

Accommodations and Food

The Skywood Recovery facility is a sprawling countryside resort-like building with a total of 100 beds. Though a limited number of private rooms are available, most residents can expect to share a room with one other roommate. Each comes with two full beds, a nightstand, dressers and a large window to look out onto the 303-acre property. Skywood Recovery is currently working on adding a new building with a full fitness center as well, though as of print the property has a driving range, putting green and a golf course for clients to take advantage of during down time. All who attend Skywood Recovery can also enjoy three healthy and delicious meals a day, all prepared and served by an executive chef. Dietary restrictions can also be accommodated.

Treatment and Staff

After initial intake and assessments, residents may need to go through an on-site, medically managed detox phase before treatment can begin. All treatment plans are highly individualized, with a wide range of evidence-based and holistic modalities. Some therapies which can be used include Motivational Interviewing (MI), CBT, DBT and Acceptance and Commitment Threrapy (ACT). Psychoeducational sessions are also used to teach clients about the nature of addiction as a disease. Treatment plans include both individual and group therapy with an overall philosophy which relies on the Stages of Change approach.

As mentioned, the facility also stresses a number of holistic approaches including wellness classes, on-site adventure therapy, a ROPES course, equine therapy, art therapy and meditative walks. Support for co-occurring disorders including trauma-informed care is also available. Topics discussed in group sessions can include conflict management, the mind-body connection, yoga, meditation and 12-step concepts. Family therapy may also be included as needed. The staff at Skywood Recovery includes RNs, psychologists, psychiatrists and additional Master’s-level clinicians.

Extras

Aside from the services mentioned above, Skywood Recovery also provides assistance with interventions as needed. Flexible outpatient treatment programs are also available for those in need of looser treatment scheduling. Similarly, aftercare services are also offered in the form of stepped down therapy sessions.

In Summary

In all, Skywood Recovery is one of many well-rounded residential facilities operated by Foundations Recovery. Treatment programs are available for those with addiction as well as mental illness and all plans are individualized. For those seeking the relaxing feel of a country retreat while getting treatment, Skywood Recovery is more than worth considering.

  1. My husband has been at skywood for 3 weeks, been put on at least 15 different meds and sounds just as unstable as when he got there. VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE MENTAL CARE HERE

  2. Best decision I ever made in my life! Change your THINKING! Change your LIFE! Saving Lives every single day!

You have to want to make a change in your life; it’s not magic!#REALTALK#100

  3. Reading these 3 comments doesn’t reassure one of the best treatment of the clients going there. Also heard fr my friend’s son that the food was lousy, rooms dirty, nothing to do, boring, I would think they would have at least a working gym and a pool for some kind of exercise. Not everyone going there is a golfer and fr the reviews that was not happening either. Need better feedback if I am going to send my son there. Don’t need a sales person selling me a bunch of lies, I need facts and better reviews.

    • Check for accuracy. I have found that people who have rated Skywood poorly are either disgruntled patients or former employees that were not engaged in treatment or their careers. Change your THINKING! Change your LIFE! Base every decision you make in life off accuracy and facts; not rumors! #RealTalk#GodBless

  4. Worst recovery place I have ever been too would not advise to anyone ever. This place is hell on earth. They tell you every lie in the book to get you there. Upon arrival no golf whatsoever no outside calls without permission no golf no cell phone no money absolutely one of the worst investments of my life. $27,500 of course that was my discounted price

    • Its sad that you say this is “the worst place ever” but all you mention is that their is no golf, no phone, no cash…..gee just saying you didnt have to go there if all you wanted was to talk on the phone and play golf. Why didnt you just go to a golf course?

      • COMPLETE SCAM!

They are associated with other controversial organizations. Watch your wallet and ignore the comments with the hashtag #REALTALK as they are left by the same people trying to take your money.

Much better options in Michigan that do not have conflicting priorities!
