Dixon IllinoisThe Basics

Sinnissippi Centers, Inc., located two hours west of Chicago, is a fully accredited non-profit behavioral healthcare agency that is community-based, serving residents of all ages in Carroll, Lee, Ogle, and Whiteside Counties. One of their many services includes alcohol and substance abuse treatment with an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). Having just celebrated their 50-year anniversary, Sinnissippi is widely respected throughout the area, especially due to its continuous efforts to provide high-quality, affordable and integrated care to those most in need in the Dixon, Illinois area.

Treatment and Staff

Treatment at Sinnissippi’s IOP is individualized and the staff uses evidence-based forms of therapy such as DBT, EMDR and CBT in both individual and group therapy. Additionally, family therapy, case management and both dual diagnosis and co-occurring support are available. Attendance of 12-step meetings is encouraged, but meetings are not offered on-site. There is no detox at Sinnissippi.

Other services offered include a continuing care recovery plan, relapse prevention, lessons about building support systems, life skills development, crisis stabilization, DUI evaluations, risk education, medication assessment and monitoring and guidance on how to nurture healthy relationships. Case managers help with medical, housing and employment referrals and setting up aftercare before a client leaves.

Sinnissippi has more than 150 staff members spread out across the four locations, including Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners, psychiatrists and other Master’s-level clinicians and counselors. Sinnissippi prides itself on being a certified trauma-informed care agency, meaning all staff—including administrators and cleaning crews—are trained to understand and deal with people suffering from past trauma and PTSD.

Extras

Sinnissippi has a reputation in the community for creating programs that take care of the most vulnerable, especially children. In addition to IOP, clients are connected with other social services. Programs that clients may benefit from include The CARES Fund, which helps individuals and families struggling financially, or The Community That Cares Project, which helps families get preventive health care for their children.

An Anger Management group, domestic violence intervention program, mental health first aid and young adult community service are a few of the other many services provided by Sinnissippi Centers, Inc.

Sinnissippi is the second agency in the nation to provide Safe Passage, a revolutionary policy that allows drug abusers in a crisis to ask for help from police or government officials without fear of going to jail. More Safe Passage locations are popping up all over the country as a result of Sinnissippi’s hard work to push this measure.
