The Basics
Founded in 2013, in East Haven, Connecticut, Shoreline Living Solutions provides gender-specific sober living for men and women in recovery. Their mission is to provide a peaceful surroundings for newly clean and sober clients so that they can focus on their recovery.
Accommodations and Amenities
The men’s house is a spacious white house located in close proximity to the beach. The home accommodates 14 men, who are lodged in single or double-occupancy rooms, which include twin beds with headboards, quaint dressers or closets. The house includes a spacious white-tiled kitchen, with ample cabinets and sparkling white appliances. The kitchen has dark blue walls, and includes a round country-style table and matching chairs.
The women’s house is a renovated beach cottage, which accommodates six clients. The women reside in single or double-occupancy wood tiled rooms that include vintage nightstands, night lamps and twin beds with country-style headboards. The house also has a fully equipped kitchen, and boasts a dining room with a large table, chairs, and bright windows. The dining room is bathed in ambient light, which casts a golden glow inside the room.
Residents are responsible for their own groceries, and meal preparation. Amenities for both houses include Wi-Fi, cable TV, laundry rooms and ample parking. The men have a backyard with a volleyball net and basketball hoop while the women have an outdoor fire pit and patio. Each house has a live-in manager.
Rules and Regulations
Prior to admission, potential clients have undergone primary care at a drug rehab. Individuals complete an application, and undergo a comprehensive phone interview with staff. Clients on medication-assisted treatment—specifically monthly Vivitrol injections are permitted. Benzodiazepines, Suboxone and Methadone are not allowed.
During the first 30 days, male residents must attend 30 12-step meetings. After that time, they must attend between four and five weekly AA/NA meetings, depending on their length of sobriety. Female clients must attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Other requirements include obtaining and working with a sponsor, working the steps, performing weekly chores, attending aftercare at an outpatient drug rehab (if appropriate), being at the weekly house meeting and obtaining employment within 30 days.
Shoreline Sober Living Solutions has a three-strike policy regarding relapse. If a client relapses the first time, they must leave the house for a week, attend regular 12-step meetings, call the house manager on a daily basis, and pass all drug and alcohol screenings prior to re-entry. For a second relapse, clients must leave for another week, and obtain medical clearance from a doctor, as well as test negative on alcohol and drug tests. In the case of a third relapse, clients must attend residential treatment and provide documentation upon release. In all cases, rent must be paid and current. The curfew is midnight Sundays through Thursdays, and one am on Fridays and Saturdays.

Other services, besides housing include employment guidance, life skills development, recovery coaching and financial counseling. Shoreline Living Solutions is a member of the National Association of Recovery Residences (NARR).
