Shoreline Center

The Basics

With locations in Long Beach and Laguna Hills, California, Shoreline Eating Disorder Center is a behavioral health organization offering outpatient treatment for eating disorders and co-occurring disorders. In addition to its transitional living program for women, Satori House, the facility also provides Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) and Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP) for men and women.

Treatment and Staff

Upon intake, each client goes through an initial assessment process to help the staff develop their individualized treatment plan. The PHP meets Mondays through Saturdays for six to eight hours each day. Participants have multiple therapeutic groups a day and two individual sessions per week, as well as visits with the psychiatrist and dietitian. Two meals and one snack daily are provided as well as movement therapy such as yoga or stretch. Individual, group and family therapy are critical components of treatment.

The IOP consists of up to six days a week from 14 to 24 hours of treatment, including weekly psychotherapy sessions and individual nutrition counseling. Individuals in IOP may participate all six days initially or less, depending on the clinical need. There is a morning IOP and evening IOP to best accommodate clients’ schedules.

All the above take a trauma-informed approach rooted in evidence-based practices such as CBT and DBT. Groups cover a range of additional topics including psychoeducation, relapse prevention, spirituality, social and communication skills and co-occurring issues. Those struggling with addiction may also attend 12-step meetings in addition to therapy, though this is not always required. Finally, the curriculum includes a number of holistic therapies like yoga, dance, somatic experiencing, voice and acting classes, creative writing and art therapy.

The staff at Shoreline Center consists of MDs, LMFTs, RDs, RNs, psychiatrists, psychologists and additional Master’s and PhD-level counselors.

Clients who finish primary care can step down their treatment as a form of aftercare or get referrals to outside programs for additional support.

In Summary

Shoreline Center provides comprehensive and individualized treatment for men and women struggling with eating disorders and dual diagnosis issues. Treatment consists of evidence-based, holistic and trauma-informed therapies designed to suit each client’s needs. With two convenient locations, Shoreline Center is an excellent choice for eating disorder treatment in the OC.
