The Basics
Based about 40 miles northwest of LA in Westlake Village California, California, Sherry Gaba is a LCSW who has worked as a clinician in Los Angeles for more than 20 years. In her private counseling practice, Gaba specializes in addictions, relationships, co-dependency, trauma, parenting, divorce and single parenting. She also serves as a consultant for several substance abuse treatment facilities. As a specialist in Somatic Experiencing, energy healing and spirituality and intuition in the recovery process Gaba’s psychotherapy and life coaching go much deeper than traditional therapy and coaching.
Gaba graduated with her BA in journalism from CSUN and her MSW from USC, making her a uniquely media savvy therapist. She established her private practice in 2003 and published a self-help book called The Law of Sobriety: Attractive Positive Energy for a Powerful Recovery in 2010. She has worked at several treatment facilities, including Promises Malibu and has served as Marketing and Outreach for Soba Recovery Center since 2009. Treatment
Through her large professional network, Gaba treats a wide range of clients. In her private practice, she sees adults, adolescents, couples and families needing help with issues like co-dependency, depression, anxiety and PTSD, as well as those struggling with substance abuse. In her work with treatment facilities, Gaba also sees those struggling with process addictions including Internet, sex, love, food and compulsive spending. She offers sessions in person at her office as well as via Skype for those who live outside the LA area.
Gaba is a practical, interactive, solution-focused therapist. She meets with each new client for an “exploration” session to determine the best course of care. There is no set length of care, as it varies widely depending on the individual. With sensitivity and compassion, she works with each client to help them build on their strengths to identify and achieve life goals. Gaba’s outpatient care offers evidence-based treatment approaches like CBT and DBT when she deems necessary. She also incorporates a blend of alternative approaches—such as somatic experiencing energy work, mindfulness and meditation—designed to treat the mind, body and spirit. Her intuitive insights provide support and practical feedback to help clients resolve current problems and long-standing patterns.

Each client is given an individualized treatment plan geared to meet their specific needs for recovery as well life—with schedules developed around work, social and family obligations. Since Gaba works closely with Soba Recovery Center in Malibu, her private clients are referred to the facility if it is determined that more comprehensive care is needed. Those who need medical care, more active supervision or detox can be provided with referrals based on their personality and the type of care they need. Gaba has good working relationships with many local medical practitioners and treatment facilities. In addition, some clients are encouraged to attend AA/NA meetings to further support their recovery and Alanon is recommended for family members and loved ones.
