Sheridan Gardens Review
Sheridan Gardens is located in the Southern California town of Encinitas, just outside San Diego. It provides detox and residential treatment on an individualized basis. Treatment includes evidence-based methods and 12-step support through individual and group therapy. Sheridan Gardens also emphasizes the importance of happiness and fun in recovery.
Accommodations and Food
Sheridan Gardens’ residential facility is set on one acre of land less than a mile away from the Pacific Ocean. It’s a 2,000 square foot home with total of six beds in three bedrooms. There is one private bedroom and two others that are shared between two to three other clients, depending on the ratio of men to women at the time of admission. The home is cozy and light, offering a rural feel on the sprawling land that includes a zen rock garden, organic fruit and vegetable garden and walking trails. The inside of the facility is simply decorated with a full kitchen, living and dining rooms and a separate section for detox.
Three nutritious meals a day, along with snacks and smoothies, are prepared and served on-site by staff. Menus can be modified for residents with allergies or aversions to certain foods.
Treatment and Staff
The programming at Sheridan Gardens utilizes individualized treatment; as such, the length of stay varies from client to client. There are up to six group sessions daily and around two individual sessions per week. The groups are based on mindfulness approaches along with holistic modalities. Groups focus on subjects like coping skills, identifying triggers, relapse prevention and self care. There is also a big emphasis on health and nutrition.
Therapeutic methods include CBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI) and art therapy. There are also daily 12-step meetings provided in an off-site location, however if the clients would prefer an alternative, like SMART Recovery, they are welcome to participate in that as well. For dual diagnosis clients, there are options for medication management and supervision.
The small team of specialists at Sheridan Gardens includes physicians, LRNs, CADCs and LPCs. There are also staff chefs and residential technicians.
Extras
The home features a porch with workout equipment and an area for yoga, which is taught three times per week. Additionally, there are morning walks and hikes on days when yoga is not offered along with weekly beach excursions.
Aftercare planning and coordination is offered at this facility along with transportation services.
