Sharp McDonald Center Review
Located in San Diego, California, as part of the Sharp HealthCare network, the Sharp McDonald Center chemical dependency treatment center was established in 1963. Accommodations and Food
The residential program is intended for individuals who have already undergone detox and are eligible for treatment. The large facility houses two residents of the same gender per room. Each client gets his or her own bed, dresser and bedside table. There is a communal bathroom and showers for the women and one for the men. There are recreation rooms with computers and cable TVs, a fully laundry facility and a fully equipped kitchen. Meals are served cafeteria-style and most dietary restrictions can be accommodated.
Treatment and Staff
Treatment at Sharp McDonald Center starts with an initial assessment to create an individualized treatment plan. All programs include individual and group therapy, family therapy, recovery coaching, continuous assessment and medical evaluations. Issue specific CBT-based support groups include topics such as: trauma-informed care, anger management, mental illness and substance use education, relapse prevention, spirituality, life skills. Medication management is also provided if necessary.
For residential clients, treatment groups are held twice a day five days a week and individual therapy takes place weekly. The outpatient program schedule is exactly same as the inpatient program, except clients do not live at the facility and do not have access to 24/7 medical care. In addition to the common addiction therapies stated above, Sharp McDonald Center also helps clients to incorporate holistic treatments like acupuncture and chiropractic care if they so desire. The staff at Sharp McDonald Center consists of physicians, nurses and CADCs.

In addition to the comprehensive substance abuse treatment program, Sharp McDonald Center also offers a variety of other community support and aftercare services to their clients. Other services include: an arts for healing program, a continuing care program, a family education and counseling program and a team of trained interventionists.
