The Basics
Shade of the Tree Counseling Services is a nonprofit facility with the mission to provide substance abuse treatment and services to Iowans in need. The state-licensed facility is located in Spirit Lake, Iowa, on the western shore of East Okoboji Lake in the Great Lakes region of the state. STCS offers intervention services, family counseling, a DWI class and general outpatient treatment for substance abuse and addiction.
Treatment and Staff
Treatment at STCS incorporates a range of treatment approaches throughout each client’s recovery plan. Clients are initially assessed and evaluated to determine which topics require the most focus during treatment. Staff help to develop an individualized plan which dictates the number of hours the client spends in therapy each week and the frequency of sessions.
Individual therapy is scheduled independently between the client and their primary counselor, but is typically once a week. Group therapy is scheduled several times a week and clients may attend depending on their need and requirements of their unique treatment plan. The 12-steps are also incorporated into treatment and clients are expected to attend weekly meetings. The duration of each client’s program varies and is subject to change depending on the progress made as clients remain committed to their recovery.
The staff at STCS consists of CADCs and psychologists.
Extras
In addition to the comprehensive outpatient substance abuse treatment program, STCS also offers a variety of other services and programs to clients and the broader community. Intervention services for family members and loved ones seeking professional assistance, family counseling services for families affected by substance abuse and OWI screenings and courses are all available.
