Just outside Las Vegas, Seven Hills Hospital is in a beautiful neighborhood in the ritzy Seven Hills community of Henderson, Nevada. Since it opened in May 2002, Seven Hills Hospital has become one of Nevada’s leading treatment centers for substance abuse issues and mental illness. The hospital setting offers an effective clinical approach, coupled with the care of staff who value their clients. Seven Hills provides inpatient treatment options for adolescents, adults and seniors.
Accommodations and Food
Seven Hills Hospital offers 58 beds for those in its residential treatment program. It is a working hospital, so there is a distinctly institutional vibe. However, the facilities are state-of-the-art and kept in pristine condition. The common area has magazines, games and a flat screen TV that is available during free time.
Rooms are shared between residents of the same gender and general age. A specialized adolescent unit houses up to 24 young people between the ages of 11 and 17. Meals are served cafeteria-style in a sunny dining room. In an effort to accommodate dietary needs, clients meet with a dietician to create a meal plan.
Treatment and Staff
Seven Hills Hospital offers on-site detox, if necessary. During detox, clients receive 24-hour monitoring by the doctors and nursing staff. Medication management is provided in order to screen the therapeutic effectiveness of medications that may have been prescribed and assess any changes that may be necessary. The main focus of treatment is the 12-step recovery, with the idea that the program provides a foundation for ongoing recovery even after the client returns home. While individual and family CBT is provided on an “as needed” basis, the main method that Seven Hills uses is group therapy. Residents are expected to attend a minimum of two to three 90-minute groups daily.
Seven Hills Hospital provides outpatient services which include a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for adults with mental health and co-occurring disorders. Both programs have a separate mental health and chemical dependency track. For chemical dependency PHP, treatment occurs from 9 am to 2 pm and IOP treatment is from 9 am to 12 pm—both programs are held Monday through Friday. PHP and IOP is sometimes suggested for those making the transition from inpatient services to a once a week outpatient appointment. It can also be an alternative for those who do not need to stay in the hospital but need daily treatment.
The treatment program at Seven Hills Hospital is run by a multidisciplinary team of licensed alcohol and drug addiction counselors, mental health technicians, physicians, psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, psychologists, recreational therapists and internists. Seven Hills boasts around-the-clock medical staff.
In addition to the more traditional treatment modes, Seven Hills also offers experiential therapy as well as recreational therapy and music therapy. Physical fitness opportunities like basketball and yoga are also offered.
Therapists create an individual plan for each resident’s aftercare. A full discharge, PHP or IOP are options from that point on.
Seven Hills offers many of the comforts of home, with a few extras. It is a great choice for those looking for 12 step-based care in a hospital setting at a fair price.
